- General Piercing After Care
- Body & Facial Piercing Healing Periods
-
Use following solution for body piercing:
- Boil the water for 10-15 minutes and after it gets cooler add the salt. The recommended analogy is: 1 glass of water (250 ml) with one spoon of salt (2.5 - 3gr). Mix thoroughly and the salt solution is ready to use.
A stronger mixture is not better!
Saline solution that is too strong can irritate the piercing.

These healing times are a rough guide only. Healing depends on the general state of health of the person. The care given to the piercing and the amount of irritation the piercing is subject to your general condition of health.
Leave your jewellery in place while cleaning. Always wash your hands before touching your piercing. Try not to touch your piercing other than when cleaning.
Your piercing will discharge a sticky fluid during the healing process. This is an important part of healing and the discharge should be cleaned off twice daily with a cleaning solution. Using a clean cotton bud dipped in that solution clean gently the jewellery through the piercing several times. After the cleaning process is finished, soak a sterilised cotton pad in the salted solution and apply to the piercing. Leave there for 5 to 10 minutes.
Always check that the compress is not too hot or too cold before applying to the piercing and keep refreshing the cotton pad when they get dry. Do this twice a day for the whole healing process.
-
- Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.
- During healing: some discoloration, itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not puss) that will form some crust on the jewellery. The tissue may tighten around the jewellery as it heals.
- Once healed: the jewellery may not move freely in the piercing; DO NOT force it. If you fail to include cleaning your piercing as a part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but smelly bodily secretions may accumulate.
- A piercing may seem healed before healing is complete. This is because piercings heal from the outside in, and although it feels healed the tissue remains fragile on the inside. BE PATIENT, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.
- Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, leave the jewellery in place.
-
- Avoid undue trauma such as friction from clothing, excessive motion of the area, playing with the jewellery and vigorous cleaning. These activities can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration, prolonged healing, and other complications.
- Avoid the use of alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Betadine, Hibiclens or ointment.
- Avoid over cleaning. This can delay your healing and irritate your piercing.
- Avoid all oral contact, rough play, and contact with others’ bodily fluids on or near your piercing during healing.
- Avoid stress and recreational drug use including excessive caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol.
- Avoid submerging the piercing in bodies of water such as lakes, pools, Jacuzzis, etc.
- Avoid all beauty and personal care products on or around the piercing including cosmetics, lotions, and sprays, etc.
- Don’t hang charms or any object from your jewellery until the piercing is fully healed.
